SQUIRREL: SHELF, LIBRARY, CLOSET… A FREE CHOICE SYSTEM

IN 2001, WE WERE INVITED BY OPES  (Italy) TO SOLVE A complex problem: innovate in the segment of modular shelves made by metallic tubes. The main issue was that, once built, any existing structure in the market was hardly expansible. That is, to insert a new shelf in the bookcase would require the partial or complete disassemble of the unit…how to avoid that?

The solution was to design an universal element of fixation, called “knot”, that allows to insert or remove shelves from the structure with total freedom and without dismounting the set (solution that led to a Patent).
.

The “Knot” made of nylon works embracing the structure of the tube/support and locking through the use of two hidden screws. The surfaces in touch with the tube are equipped with special ribbing, designed to measure to ensure the grip but not to scribe the tube. Once installed, the knot can be covered with an element for aesthetic finishing that can be chromed, transparent or colored.
.

The solution allows the structure of the bookcase to be constantly transformed according to the needs of the user. Squirrel is commercialized in several ways, making it possible for the system to be used in all room in the house: bedroom, kitchen, living room, TV room, library, etc.
